It’s not just enough to show up and ride at a horse show, there’s a certain amount of ceremony and preparations that go above and beyond daily horse grooming. The goal is to help your horse shine - but it doesn’t stop there. Also take into consideration your tack, your own turnout, and how you take care of your horse at the show.
Use a hoof polish. This makes your horse’s hooves look finished and posh.If at all possible, apply between the warm up ring and the show ring. Sprays are easy to use and you will never gunk up a brush. Shapley’s Hi Gloss Finishing Spray isn’t just a coat conditioner, it’s a clever way to polish hooves, too.
Brighten your horse’s color. This doesn’t just apply to grays and white - it applies to all colors! EquiTone Shampoos are color enhancing and create shine and depth to your horse’s coat.
Then add the mega shine to your horse. Shapley’s gives you three ways to do this.Magic Sheen creates a reflective surface that makes your horse’s coat slick, shiny and stain resistant. No. 1 Light Oil is a conditioning treatment that creates amazing shine, but for very dusty environments you might want to stick with the Magic Sheen. Hi Gloss Finishing Spray is also a conditioning oil, in a different container that makes application of a thin layer easy.
Make sure all of your horse’s chrome is bright and white. Easy Out will remove last minute stains, and Show Touch Ups will make white socks pop with color. Since Show Touch Ups are non toxic pigment in a convenient spray, the enhancement lasts a long time.
Show Touch Up Sprays also come in other colors - perfect for creating a spotless horse!
Start with clean tack. Then let your saddle conditioner of choice be applied before a ride, in addition to after. This creates a sheen to your tack, and may even give you some stick in the saddle. If you are worried about any conditioner staining your clothes, just use a little on the back of the cantle and around the flap edges to add shine.
Follow with blinding white or crazy bright saddle pads. Some oxy treated laundry keeps things clean and bright. If possible, use your show pads at shows only.
Sparkle up any bling on your spurs, stirrups, brow bands, etc. with a good polish. You can even buy cleaning cloths with polish added to shine metal and chrome. A soft toothbrush can also help you get into the details of a buckle or a shiny browband.
When you take your grooming routine up a notch or two, the judge will notice!

“Magic Sheen is the only shine product I trust on my horse and it works beautifully! It detangles quickly, leaves a high shine and I just love the smell. And it repels dirt better than any product I have used before without drying out his coat. My horse always stays much cleaner than his barn mates!”
Magic Sheen is designed with no additional ingredients that can dry your horse's coat. It's great to use on your horse's body to add shine and help prevent stains.
You can also use Magic Sheen to detangle manes and tails.
